How Does a Thermo Bottle Work?
Have you ever used a thermos flask to keep your coffee and tea piping hot, while you’re on the road? Or keeping your refreshing cold water for hours at the beach during summer? Many of us have. But how does a thermos flask work and why does it keep your drink so hot and cold for a long period of time?
The thermo bottle is a very popular and commonly used drink container that is mostly used to store hot or cold beverages. The original design was patented in 1904 in the United States. Since then, the thermos has changed greatly in its technology and design.
A thermos is a bottle, but it’s not like an ordinary bottle. It has a double-walled container inside of it. The air between the two walls is sucked out during construction so that there’s a vacuum in between them. A thermos bottle is designed to keep hot things hot by preventing heat from escaping. The vacuum at the center of the walls does this without any help from special cooling technology or energy of any kind – which means a thermos doesn’t require any power to keep its contents warm for hours!
A thermos does something similar when it comes to keeping cold things cold – such as drinks for example. It prevents heat from traveling up and into the room-temperature contents of your thermos from outside sources like direct sunlight by using its vacuum to insulate against ambient temperature changes while remaining lightweight and convenient while you’re on the go with it!
Modern thermo bottles are usually fashioned in layers of plastic that help to contain heat. Some thermal bottles also contain ‘colder’ agents such as styrofoam, a material that reduces heat transfer even further. If you use a thermal bottle today, you can be fairly certain that, hours later, your coffee will still be hot or your lemonade will still be cold!
